Anxiety Symptom – Treatment Tips

A common anxiety symptom in anxiety attacks is extreme fearfulness or nervousness – often accompanied by other physiological symptoms like shortness of breath, palpitation, sweating, nausea and more. Anxiety attacks are characterized by the fight-or-flight response which is commonly experience by people in dangerous or frightening situations. While not all anxiety attacks can be immediately classified as a disorder, a recurring anxiety symptom is usually indicative of a disorder.

Anxiety Symptom – Disorder Types

General anxiety disorder – This is one of the most common forms of anxiety disorders. People who suffer from this condition usually feel extremely agitated and nervous all the time. They can also experience physical problems like headaches, malaise, and hyperacidity. There is usually an underlying cause to this problem. People who develop this usually have experienced something extremely negative or traumatic.

Phobia – This is an unexplained fear of a particular object, event or place. Some phobias are the result of painful memories or caused by terrifying events. The relationship between the phobia and the specific unpleasant incident may not be direct. Some individuals go to great lengths to avoid their phobias. Anxiety attacks related to phobias typically lasts longer and are more sever.

Drug Addiction – Drugs can induce symptoms similar to anxiety attacks. The cause is purely bio-chemical. Attacks happen while taking drugs or during detoxification for recovering addicts. Symptoms are similar to those who experience the general variety of anxiety attacks.

Contributing Factors

Personality – The type of personality an individual has can affect his chances of developing anxiety attacks. Those who are prone to depression or feelings of melancholy are especially susceptible to anxiety attacks.

Stress – Being in a stressful environment or situation can lead some people into developing anxiety disorders. Things like financial difficulties, feuds with friends or co-workers, and dysfunctional family relationships can lead to the development of psychological illnesses that are characterized by anxiety attacks.

Biological Tendencies – Some people have natural hormonal imbalances that make them especially prone to anxiety attacks. An anxiety symptom resulting from imbalances can be mild to severe. While some doctors change their patient’s diet, many usually prescribe medication to correct these imbalances.
